Aldi is charging data in 25KB chunks instead of 1 MB

Good news from Aldi:
Now for the really great news! We are changing the way data is consumed, giving our customers even better value for money.

Instead of being charged per MB, you will be charged per 25KB. This applies to all of our PAYG plans, Value Packs and Data Packs.

For example, if you consume 490KB of actual data, your credit will be depleted by 500KB as it is rounded up to the nearest 25KB; previously your credit would have been depleted by a whole MB.

What this means for you is that you can enjoy even more data, for no extra charge.

For customers who use PAYG credit for data, you will also consume in 25KB blocks and the equivalent charge will be depleted from your balance.

Now, the minimum charge for using data will be $0.001 per 25KB. We will always display your balance rounded to the nearest cent.

On my phone Cellular is Off
Checking the weather, temperature, emails 2-3 times a day, I found it to be too expensive.
Now I'm itching to put it On.

Huh? Did you sell that function from it?:?
I could have made a few bucks if I had thought of that! :wink2:

Nah misi, I just don't use my mobile for email or even making phone calls very often.
It's a very expensive alarm clock that reminds me to do things every day. :satisfied

I do have an app that magnifies stuff so I can read labels on food packages, and I use the camera a lot to document stuff - and rarely I do turn cellular on to check something on the net (so 25 KB billing is nice) and then disable it again.

Nah misi, I just don't use my mobile for email
The best thing since sliced bread for me.
I have several email addresses and not using an email client to read them on my desktop.
Used to use Outlook but when my old PC died it died with it.
The new Office Suite I bought does not have it so I can read my emails only online.
Login-logout from them is a hard task to do repeatedly so it's happened that I did not read some emails for a quite long time.
On my phone all of them are there, anything new I can read immediately.
Worthless? Delete it.
Interesting? Login to that account and read it on the desktop, reply if necessary.
I'm (still)using only Wi-Fi to check them.

There is some sense in doing that - and use wifi - I would need to change to IMAP but I might go that way one day.

Now that is something I really need. Never take my reading glasses out of the house.

I have Magnifying Glass free by Fapps World and I just noticed some nasty adverts when on wifi - but it has zoom and light built in and works when my cellular is off

What's wrong with SMTP?
It's POP3 access that is the issue - my desktop would have to leave the messages there for some days.

IMAP would make it easy coz all messages would stay on the server and be available to iFoney as well as the desktop.

I've been a bit of a luddite to stick with POP3 until now.

Do you use POP or IMAP for your email you share with the phone?
To tell you the truth I cannot figure it out from the settings.
Some of them is clearly shown as IMAP but the others don't show what are they.
I guess they are POP.

...and continue this until Aldi charges 25KB for a touch.
I used to be a Vodafone customer they counted usage by the KBs.
Whatever usage I saw on my phone that almost matched the usage they charged.
That was a fair system. I used to use about 100MB from the available 500MB.

I use POP on my PC ( outlook ) , Tablet and mobiles. Messages are not deleted from server unless I log into server and prune unwanted messages. I use my own mail server.

I understand here you go through the hoops to run a mail server - and hope that doesn't get blocked by the cowboys - but what is the benefit in your case of not using IMAP

If you want to use multiple devices and have it synced, and have everything on tap on every device - then IMAP is the ants pants - no?

I used to be a Vodafone customer they counted usage by the KBs.
I wonder what the technical reason is that that don't charge to the nearest IP packet-worth??
Munny! Munny! Munny! Munny! Munny! Munny! Munny! Munny! Munny! Munny! Munny! Munny! Munny! Munny!
