Extending the size of C:

misi

My Drive C: is almost full.
Available: 1.9 GB
Drive D: available 2.5 TB

OK, clean it up.
Don't need some old Microsoft Visual Studio programs.
One of them is 8GB + the other is 3GB=11GB
Deleted them and now I have available space on C: 4.4 GB
Huh???
Yes.
What to do now?
Somehow have to shrink the size of D: and extend the size of C:.
Is it safe to do it with Windows?
I don't want to use any partitioning programs from other companies.

Found this in the deep dark recesses of something I looked up some time ago, might be of help. :hope

"When using Disk mgmt, in order to extend a Primary Partition into Logical Free Space, you must right click on the free Space to Delete the Volume. This will make it Unallocated Space to extend C into: Partition or Volume - Extend

If this doesn't work use free Partition Wizard which will Resize into any empty space whether (Primary) Unallocated or (Logical) Free Space. Rightclick C to Resize, slide right grey border all the way to the right, OK, Apply."

Too be honest I've nearly always used Partition Magic it always seemed easier than Disk mgmt.

Maybe tomorrow because today clicking on download gives only this error message in IE:

This page can’t be displayed
  • Make sure the web address //ieframe.dll/dnserror.htm# is correct.
  • Look for the page with your search engine.
  • Refresh the page in a few minutes.
FF: only a blank page

That was hard to get it but finally got it.
I couldn't see anything else but "javascript;"when hovering over on download.
Then click here and there and repeat and...success.

Found something interesting:
MiniTool Partition Wizard free edition is a piece of windows clone software helps you to copy hard drive to another without data loss. Actually, for MiniTool Partition Wizard, disk copy equals to disk clone, and it even provides Sector-by-Sector copy technology. So you don't need to worry about the accident mentioned in the previous content after cloning a hard drive. Besides, this partition magic can be employed on Windows XP/Vista/7/8/8.1/10, both 32 bit and 64 bit.

Installed EaseUS, could not do the job, going to remove it because I need every byte on my 200GB partition.
Wait a minute...

687 GB ???
Love it!
Thanks for encouraging me, @TeeEm!

PS: Some rubbish is popping up that I have 387MB of files to remove.
I guess it's from EaseUS.

Huh???

I missed some posts that LG is now showing me.

I can't quite follow your maths there misi, with what was free before and after the deletion.

Then I saw your partition map.

Back in the MSDOS days I partitioned my harddrive into various drive letters due to limitations in the file system back then. I continued doing that with Win9x but when I upgraded to Win XP I consolidated all the drive space into a single partition and just used folders to organise where I sorted things.

A benefit with hard drive free space when doing that is all the free space is available. You don't have a system where 80GB is free on one partition, and 60 GB is free on another partition - you have the entire 140GB free to save things to.

That's SOP at foxi Manor these days.

Those recovery partitions need to stay there.

Available 1.9GB
Clearing out 11GB the free space should be 12.9 GB
For some odd reason it became only 4.4GB
