Mozilla is planning to change the addon API system and remove APIs that many addons rely on to function, so expect your favourite addons to stop working if you upgrade past the current V40
It's supposed to allow addons from other browsers to be used in Firefox, make Firefox more stable and so addons can't crash it - but it removes a lot of what addons have been able to do in Firefox.
Also
Mozilla will require all extensions to be validated and signed by Mozilla starting in Firefox 41, which will be released on September 22nd 2015.

I'm going to keep a backup of V40 just in case...
