iiNet launches the Age of the Terabyte
18 August 2010 [FONT=Calibri,Calibri][FONT=Calibri,Calibri]– iiNet customers will be the first in Australia to be able to have a monthly broadband data quota of one terabyte, or one million megabytes, per month. Just two days after announcing its 2010 annual results, including a 27% increase in subscriber services, iiNet’s Chief Executive Officer Michael Malone said the launch of the terabyte plan was a further demonstration of iiNet’s drive to lead innovation in the Australian telecommunications market.
According to Malone, the new one thousand Gigabyte plan was part of a new suite of simplified plans with greatly increased data quotas available to new and existing customers.
"iiNet is moving Australian broadband forward," said Mr Malone. "We've built a high performance network over the past five years, including great long term deals with our suppliers. We have oodles of bandwidth and it's about time we used it.

"Today we continue to lead the market with our latest innovation – Australia’s first one terabyte plan. It’s backed up by the best customer service, our high performance network and a reputation for delivering. This isn't about big plans, it's about sustainable plans."
Mr Malone said the new plans with increased quota were in response to Australians’ increasing appetite for fast broadband and online content, including live and catch[/FONT][/FONT][FONT=Calibri,Calibri][FONT=Calibri,Calibri]‐[/FONT][/FONT][FONT=Calibri,Calibri][FONT=Calibri,Calibri]up television, music, online gaming and much more. He said average usage has been increasing 20[/FONT][/FONT][FONT=Calibri,Calibri][FONT=Calibri,Calibri]‐[/FONT][/FONT][FONT=Calibri,Calibri][FONT=Calibri,Calibri]30 percent per year and these plans recognise that growth and customer needs.
A terabyte of data, or one million megabytes of quota, would allow a customer to watch the equivalent of more than 8000 half[/FONT][/FONT][FONT=Calibri,Calibri][FONT=Calibri,Calibri]‐[/FONT][/FONT][FONT=Calibri,Calibri][FONT=Calibri,Calibri]hour episodes of streaming or catch[/FONT][/FONT][FONT=Calibri,Calibri][FONT=Calibri,Calibri]‐[/FONT][/FONT][FONT=Calibri,Calibri][FONT=Calibri,Calibri]up television per month, from sites like the Seven Network’s Plus7 or Ninemsn’s FixPlay. Alternatively, customers could stream the ABC’s new 24 hours news channel, ABC24, continually for the entire month and still have more than half their quota remaining for other uses.
The new plans would be available from 20 August. Existing Naked DSL customers will automatically receive the higher quota at no extra cost. Other iiNet customers will continue on their existing plans unless they choose to change.
