/foxi plays with his iPhone 5-1APPLE has launched an iPhone replacement program after admitting some smartphones sold two years ago were issued with faulty batteries.
With weak battery life one of the biggest complaints for iPhone users, the announcement could be good news.
But there’s a catch. Apple says the identified problem only involves “a very small percentage of iPhone 5 devices (that) may suddenly experience shorter battery life or need to be charged more frequently”.
Apple says the affected iPhone 5 devices were sold between September 2012 and January 2013.
To find out if your iPhone 5 is one of the lucky, or unlucky, few, Apple has set up a web site where you can put in your phone’s serial number and see if it falls within the affected range.
If you feel your iPhone 5 has a dodgy battery but the serial number isn’t in that range, then you’re out of luck.
Also, the recall comes a bit late for anyone who spent two years frustrated with a bad iPhone battery.
To find out your iPhone’s serial number, go to settings, general and about.
You can identify if your phone is applicable for return but won’t be able to actually take your phone into Apple until August 29.
