I have found that VLC will play many of the movies I've downloaded as is, without having to find codecs like Media player does to either turn the movie up the right way or play sub files.

I have my iMac using VLC by default. (Made up a script for it, too). Got the update just yesterday. I think most - if not all - mac users use VLC player.
